This page will be used mostly for music class information for grades K-8 and materials for K-4.

February Music K-8

5th-8th grade has been working on new rhythm and pitch patterns to recognize by ear. The next step will be recognizing patterns by sight. In addition to developing music literacy skills... 5th grade is continue to expand their recorder skills and knowledge, as well as preparing for the Philharmonic field trip later this year. 6th grade has been learning about the Blues and will be writing their on Blues song in Garage Band. 7th grade and 8th grade are learning about the history and importance of Church music and guidelines used for planning music for Mass. They will be pretending to be a church music director and plan music for a specific kind of Mass.

4th grade is working on gaining more recorder skills and learning folk dances.

3rd grade is learning how to play 3 notes on recorder and learning folk dances.

2nd grade is growing their repertoire of various folk music from the U.S. and around the world, creating their own short sung songs, and using their bodies creatively and in dance.

1st grade is becoming more familiar with various folk music from the U.S. and around the world, creating their own short sung songs, and using their bodies creatively and in dance.

Band is available for students in grades 4-8. Band is on Mondays 3-3:45pm in the school music room. Cost is limited to buying books and buying or renting an instrument (and buying reeds if your student plays clarinet or saxophone; strength 3 or 3.5 Juno or strength 3 Vandoren are recommended). Please also make sure they have necessary cleaning/maintenance supplies like a swab (flute), cork grease and swab (clarinet and saxophone), valve oil and cleaning snake (trumpet, baritone) and slide oil and cleaning snake (trombone).

Solo & Ensemble

Band students in grades 5-8 are elligible to perform. S&E is held at Carroll HS at the end of January or beginning of February.

Music Theory (Note Reading/Rhythm)

musictheory.net--Helpful lessons and exercises for practicing music theory concepts like note names and piano keys. Also available as an app.

Speed Note Reading--A timed exercise for practicing note names. Use Level 1.


RECORDER PACKET OF MUSIC/LOGIN INFO--A little recorder history and two bonus songs are included in the packet at the end.  The packet begins with the login information for playing along with most of the songs.

Recorder Karate--What 3rd-5th grade uses to learn recorder. The link is to the recordings they can play along with. Login information is included in the above packet.

Recorder Master--An online game where you use your recorder as the game controller! Need a built-in or external mic for the computer.


Studio One--Free audio creator/editor program for PC or Mac.

Incredibox--Make your own beat boxing mix! Record your mix in versions 2, 3, or 4 and e-mail me the mix for extra credit!  Limit 1 per quarter.

Isle of Tune--Create your own musical world of loops. Share the island with me for extra credit! Limit 1 per quarter.
